The Bodyguard of the Mafia boss's daughter (part 28/32)

Yeah, I'm fighting a battle within
And I don't know where to begin, oh-oh
A monster inside of my skin
And I don't know where to begin, oh-oh
I stood with my feet shoulder width apart, arms rigid and stretched in front of me. The cool metal of the trigger caused goose bumps to rise on my arms.

Excitement. That's all I feel at this moment. My father left me alone to practice on my own for a while.

I heard the door open behind me as soon as I pulled the trigger for the first time. I turned, expecting to see my father but instead, there stood Jaxon.

“Hey,” I smiled.

“Hey.”

I looked back at the target to see where I hit. The bullet hit near the rib section

“You need to aim a little higher,” Jaxon said. I turned on my heel and playfully glared at him.

“That was my first shot. Don't come in here criticizing me when I haven't had time to practice.”

He smirked at me. “Let me help you.”

“I don't need help-” He cut me off by grabbing my hips and turning me to face the target. I gasped. He pressed his front against my back. He ran his hands up the length of my body until he reached my arms. As his fingers skimmed their way down my arms, my breathing quickened. He placed his hands over mine, pushing them onto the stock of the gun.

“Grip the stock firm and steady. That helps with the kick.” His lips moved against my ear as he spoke. I bit my lip.

“Take a deep breath before pulling the trigger. That helps with accuracy.”

I took a deep, shaky breath. Not out of fear of the gun but because of the feeling of his body so close to mine.

As the breath left my body, I pulled the trigger. The bullet sped through the air and through the targets heart.

I smiled at the hole in the target. “I did it.”

“Yeah,” he breathed out. In that moment, I felt his length against me.

“Jaxon,” I whispered.

He took the gun out of my hands and placed it on the table in front of us. I pressed my backside further into him. A groan sounded behind me.

He grabbed my hips again and turned me to face him. Pushing me against the wall, his hands found their way into my hair.

“You're so sexy.” He bit down on his bottom lip. My eyes followed the movement.

“Yeah?”

“Oh, hell yeah.” He smirked and pulled me to him, placing his lips on mine.

“God, I love you Lyla Rose.”

I smiled up at him. “I love you.”

“No, you don't understand. I really really love you Lyla.”

I scrunched my eyebrows. “I don't understand.”

“I'm in love with you. Every part of you. You are perfect for me.”

I felt my heart race at his words. I reached up and pulled his face down to mine. Our lips met with urgency. His tongue explored my mouth and I moaned. I pushed my chest toward him and his hand found my breast easily.

The door clicked and I quickly pushed Jaxon off me. Clearing my throat, I walked back to the table and grabbed my pistol. A few moments later, my father rounded the corner.

Jaxon cleared his throat. “She's quite a shot, sir. But, considering who her father is, it doesn't surprise me.”
My dad smiled over at Jaxon and nodded.
“I need to speak with the two of you about something.”
I turned and looked at my father. I glanced at Jaxon and he looked as confused as I felt.
“We need to talk about a wedding.” I choked on my spit.
“I'm sorry, what?” I asked in disbelief.
“For your mother and I. What did you think I was going to say?”
I looked from my father to Jaxon.
“For the two of you?” He laughed. “Sweetheart, Jaxon hasn't even asked you yet. Why on earth would I recommend a wedding for people who aren't even engaged?”
My mind stuck to the word yet. Jaxon was staring at me. I didn't dare look at him. I don't want him to know that I heard that.
Wait, if Dad said 'yet', does that mean Jaxon has already asked his permission?
I cleared my throat. “When are you and mom getting married?”
“This weekend.”
“What about the CEO of Mark's company? Mom is married to him?”
“Their marriage was never finalized.”
“Finalized?” Jaxon asked.
“Yes. They had a ceremony but, turns out, the man who married them wasn't ordained.”
“So, this weekend?”
“Yes, your Mother needs you back at the house. She's getting you fitted for your bridesmaid dress.”
“She wants me to be a bridesmaid?”
“Only if you're comfortable with it.”
“Yeah, totally. I just hope she leaves enough room for me to have this strapped to my thigh.” I smirked and wiggled my gun by my leg.
“Sweetheart, this is a locked down event. There will be guards everywhere.”
“No offense, Dad, but given my history, I'm never letting this thing leave my direct contact.”
Jaxon smirked. “She's got a point, sir. No harm in being extra cautious.”
I smiled over at him. We held eye contact for a few moments before Dad cleared his throat.
“Well, in that case, Lyla, go see your mother.”
I nodded and kissed him on the cheek before walked to the house.
As soon as I opened the door to the house, chaos plagued me. I was swarmed by snooty women with tight pony tails and heels.
“Mom!” I called.
She groaned out loud as she rounded the corner. “Ladies! I told you to let her breathe.”
“What is all this?”
“They have to fit you for your dress and shoes. Also, I have a stylist upstairs with your sister if you want to do something different with your hair. Just offering.”
“Uh, okay. Sure.”
She made eye contact with me and frowned. “Ladies, give us a moment.”
They all walked out of the room, a chorus of clacking heels.
“What happened to your face, dear?” She reaches up to touch my face and I flinched away from her. She dropped her hand and looked away.
“I'm fine. It's just training.”
“We need to talk. You know that, right?”
“I know. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you. I'm just so new to this. I've been so used to not having a mother. So used to believing you hated me and didn't want me. This is difficult for me.”
“I know and I can be patient. I just hope you forgive me one day and we can build a mother/daughter relationship.”
I smiled. “I'd like that. I'd also like to get to know my sister so I think I'm going to head up and see her.”
“Okay darling.” She smiled at me and tucked my hair behind my ear. This time I let her. “I do love you, even if you don't believe it.”
“I do believe it.” She smiled and began walking in the direction of the other women.
I made my way to the stairs with a smile on my face.
